Otto Neurath an Rudolf Carnap und Charles W. Morris, 5. November 1936 November 1936

Dear friends:

this one letter is for you both together. Serious discussions about my activities in U.S. show us that it wound be most important, if I could get invitations of an University for lectures or consultation. It would not be necessary for a longer period, because I do not intend to remain in U.S. If you see a possibility for such a construction I beg you give me more detailed informations. For instance two weeks in January…

In connection with the Encyclopedia I communicate to you, that we call one departement of our Mundaneum Institute The Hague: “UNITY OF SCIENCE INSTITUTE”, because we – according [to] the constitution text of our Institute (Dutch Law) – have logical analysis of sciences and encyclopaedia as one of our special tasks. We shall in future write: UNITY OF SCIENCE INSTITUTE (Mundaneum Institute The Hague).

Ad: collaborators.

My last letter was giving suggestions in connection with our first two volumes. But I think it would be useful, if we could by correspondence speak about the whole group of collaborators. For instance: Mannoury, Feigl (what would be a special field for him?), Dubislav, Karl Menger, Radakovic, Waismann, Zilsel, etc. It is difficult to find special themes for the one and the other, also for Popper. For Biology Haldane, etc. I think it would be useful to use Ernest Nagel as collaborator and other young Americans.

Only for discussion: A pamphlet would be perhaps interesting, containing short notes of different authors, which are friends of our unity of science movement, but not working within this movement, for instance Ernst von Aster etc. Not in the two first volumes, but as one of the last volumes, more or less as a[n] addition. What is your opinion about this idea?

Excuse me please my too broken English. But it is night and I have not time or power to use my dictionary…Good night! Thanks! Greetings!

Always your[s]
Otto Neurath
