\brief{Charles Morris an Carnap, 20. Juli 1934}{Juli 1934} %July 20, 1934 %Wien XIX %Huschkagasse 18 %Österreich \anrede{Dear Professor Carnap --} \haupttext{Your letter which came today is difficult to answer, since I would not wish in any way to hinder your plans -- and I could not be sure from the letter whether you were anxious to go to the Dolomites or were doing it for us. Much as I regret to say so, I do not believe that it would be wise for us to go -- \uline{but I see no reason whatever why that should keep you from going}. We shall be in that region in late September, and the fact that I have so much yet to do in Vienna makes me feel that I should stay here until about August\,7th -- that will still give us a month in Prag. So if you went to Italy for two weeks you would be back in Prag not long after we got there -- for that reason I do not feel that my decision should necessarily hinder your Italian trip. If on other grounds you do not make that trip it would still be possible for us to go somewhere in Czechoslovakia for \neueseite{} a ``talking'' and vacation on the second and third weeks of August. If you have already had your vacation by then, I will remain in Prag since the whole trip is a vacation for me. And so it stands: make whatever plans best suit you, and in any case we will be together -- whether in Prag or elsewhere -- from at the latest August\,10 until the end of the Congress\II{\kongressphilosophieprag}! We are grateful to you for your invitation and only hope that this decision is not causing you any inconvenience. Many thanks for your new pamphlet\IC{} \& the Wiener Kreis brochure\IW{\wissweltauffassung}? We will have \uline{much} to talk over! `Deduction' is not perhaps here strict -- but I believe that the ethical theories of pragmatism are in a somewhat close relation to the theory of meaning, -- certainly as close as Einheitswissenschaft \& physikalismus stand to the `Vienna' criterion of the meaningful. Neurath\IN{\neurath} has written me for a title to my Vorkonferenz\II{\vorbesprechunginprag} paper\IW{} and I will write him shortly proposing \uline{Pragmatism and Logical Positivism} or \uline{Pragmatism and the Wiener Kreis.}} \grussformel{Cordially\\ Charles W Morris} \ebericht{Brief, hsl., 2 Seiten, \href{https://doi.org/10.48666/870342}{RC 029-04-13}; Briefkopf: hsl. \original{July\,20, 1934 \,/\, Wien XIX \,/\, Huschkagasse 18 \,/\, Österreich}.}
