Rudolf Carnap an Charles Morris, 18. Juli 1934 Juli 19334

Dear Mr. Morris!

Many thanks for your pamphlet about Pragmatism and DemocracyB. I was very interested to read it and to see what position the Pragmatists take in such general, cultural and political questions and how they regard the present situation. But I believe, the ethical and political aims cannot be deduced theoretically from the theories of Pragmatism but are connected with them only personally.

Now there is emerged a new plan for the next weeks: a friend of ours has offered us to bring us in his car in the Italian Dolomites. We will accept it provided that you would also come there. The trip begins on July 27. Our friend goes to a very fashionable and expensive place; we will look for a cheaper one. Would you not think such a little trip (we should stay 14 days or so) would be nice and refreshing for you and your familyPMorris, Trude, verh. mit Charles W. MorrisPMorris, Sally, Tochter von Charles W. und Trude Morris also? Please write us whether you are willing to come with us and on which date you wish to leave Vienna.

If by any reason you would not like to come to the mountains please write immediately! Because in this case we should refuse the proposal of our friend, and that we had to do till Monday. Therefore, in the negative case, please post your letter at the latest on Saturday at noon (or a cable until Sunday evening; cable-address: Carnap, Podhomolkou 146, Prag). We shall write more details after having received your answer.

Very sincerely

yours
R. Carnap
