I have already apologizedaKsl. for delaying this letter so long. I wanted to make clear one or two points on which it is important there should be no misunderstanding.
The proposal put to you by Mr. BlackPBlack, Max, 1909–1988, brit.-am. Philosoph for a little book to introduce your work to the English public refers to a volume in the “Psyche“ MiniaturesIPsyche Miniatures. These are published by Kegan PaulIKegan Paul, Verlag, for “Psyche“IPsyche, Zeitschrift; but otherwise they are in no way concerned or responsible. “Psyche“IPsyche, Zeitschrift has certain funds for getting work printed, which would otherwise not be brought to the attention of those likely to be interested. In general, therefore, we make no payment to the author (nor, of course, to any publisher for the rights of translation), but in this case we are making a small payment to Mr. BlackPBlack, Max, 1909–1988, brit.-am. Philosoph for his work. Since, however, you raise the question of a fee and of the size of the edition, I am authorized to offer you a nominal fee of £ 5‚ for an edition not to exceed 1500 copies; any further printing to be subject to a further arrangement. Also to send you 12 copies of the book when it is ready.
If this is satisfactory to you we can proceed at once, and get the book out early in the New Year.
When Dr. NeurathPNeurath, Otto, 1882–1945, öst. Philosoph und Sozialwiss., heiratete 1912 Olga Neurath und 1941 Marie Neurath was here I suggested to him the possibility of his writing some sort of general Preface. I have not yet mentioned this to Mr. BlackPBlack, Max, 1909–1988, brit.-am. Philosoph, as I wanted to hear from you whether such a suggestion would have your approval. If not for this bookB, perhaps for the 🕮 bookB on which you are now working, and in which we would be more particularly interested. I would like to have the option on the rights of this further book for a week to see if Messrs. Kegan PaulIKegan Paul, Verlag would themselves be interested. Might I hear what your proposal would be in this case? (I may mention that an ‘outright‘ payment of £ 15 or £ 20 has been usual in similar circumstances in the past).
Hoping to hear from you at your early convenience‚
I am‚
